Designing Transformation
Organizations can change. Cultures can change. Systems can change. Never all at once, but through a series of strategic leaps that build belief, increase confidence, and shape identity—setting in motion an arc of change that may not have seemed possible.
Ford and Intercorp partnered with IDEO to build their businesses around customers and their organizations around people. Over more than a decade of collaboration, both have shown how transformation can lead to new opportunities for growth.
These deep collaborations often result in broader culture change. Northern Illinois Food Bank started with an app, but ended up redefining the way they measure success across the organization. At Conservation International, which works in a field that historically has treated people as the problem rather than the solution, human-centered design is shifting the thinking about how to incentivize communities to protect their habitats.
It’s not surprising that our portfolio of transformation work overlaps so much with our climate work. H&M and IDEO have been exploring climate solutions for years, each revealing insights that lead to business opportunities. And Closed Loop Partners, a circular-economy-focused investment firm and innovation center, showed CVS Health, Target, Walmart, and others how collaborating on a reusable bag might transform retail far faster than a competitive approach.
With these partners and others, we're learning that change happens through tangible, strategic leaps.
